He has done a masterful job of combining fiction, folklore and history in this book. will knock your socks off and rock your world if you let it When Lloyd Douglas's housekeeper asked the innocent question about the crucifixion, "What happened to his robe sir?" this was the beginning of Lloyd Douglas's magnum opus. This very real entry into the first century A.D. It is a very weighty tome that will probably cause readers to re-evaluate and re-discover their life lessons It is a book that will hit you in the solar plexus. We see how a cocky, young Roman Centurion becomes a humble citizen whose main goal in life is to educate the people about Jesus Christ and his promised Kingdom. Marcellus was present at the time of the crucifixion of Christ, and his presence at this momentous occasion forever changed his life. The amount of work that went into this novel is astounding, and the skill in which it was created is beyond belief. Marcellus, Demetrias and Diana were as real to me as people that I may meet on the street corner any day of the week. We learn to love and care for the main characters as we hear about Jesus's life story. Yes, the story is familiar to us as Christians, but Douglas has created a wonderful meld of fiction and history in this book. Douglas has created a masterpiece here, and it has some of the the most beautiful language and prose I have ever read. It ends about 2 years after that in a Roman forum. This is a story of Jesus, and it begins just before the crucifixion on the grassy knoll at Golgotha. It is timeless in its message and in its story.

This dark and twisty BATMAN in the blockbuster DC Icons series is an action-packed thrill ride from #1 New York Times bestselling author MARIE LU.īefore he was Batman, he was Bruce Wayne. Therefore, the very first novella, “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,” is subtitled “Hope Springs Eternal,” and it is indeed the most hopeful narrative in guide or, for that issue, in all of King’s work. The 4 novellas making up Various Seasons were composed at various times, each following the completion of a book: “The Body” was created after Salem’s Whole lot (1975 ), “Proper Pupil” after The Radiating (1977 ), “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” after The Dead Zone (1979 ), and “The Breathing Method” after Firestarter (1980 ), although the novellas bear little resemblance to the much longer functions that preceded them.Īs the title indicates, guide is arranged around the periods, with each area bearing a suitable subtitle. The three “non-horror” entrances in Various Seasons are various simply since his imaginative creativity took place to take him– temporarily– out of his usual territory. Various Seasons is a collection of four novellas a little connected by a seasonal motif, just one which–“The Breathing Approach”– can be freely described a “superordinary horror tale.” This foray into reasonable or “mainstream” fiction has tempted some movie critics right into recommending that Different Seasons represents King’s bid for “larger recognition,” an attempt to drop his title as “King of the Scary Writers,” however King declares he is rather content to be “keyed in” as a horror story writer. The colonists began to seem themselves caught up in this conspiracy of power versus liberty, exemplified when the British quartered troops in Boston. It was framed as a conflict of power versus liberty. Much of this was rooted in British pamphleteers including John Trenchard and Thomas Gordon, who protested what they saw as corruption in which royal ministers usurped the power of parliament. He identifies key themes that led to conflict and the Declaration of Independence. What Bailyn does is to study the literature that preceded the revolution, much of it in pamphlets ranging from the more religiously based ones of Jonathan Mayhew to the more radical Thomas Paine. The original edition of this work, published in 1967, won both Pulitzer and Bancroft Prizes for Harvard historian Bernard Bailyn.
